(00:21:53) Plus our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here’s the run down –

Batman The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #2 – I’m really surprised. This is good. A lot of people dead, and more on the way. I’m having a far better time with this than my stoic don’t mess with the classics opinion should allow me, but here we are. 8/10

The Nice House by the Sea #4 – We find out about why Walter left the door open between the houses, and, well, that’s not good for anyone. 8.5/10

The Penguin Special #1 – A disturbingly creepy first story from Jeremy Adams, Howard Porter, HIFI and Troy Peteri that really leans into the sadistic side of the Penguin, a classic silver age tale, the secret origins penguin special from 1989, Joker’s Asylum featuring the Penguin, all some of the best penguin stories there are - 8/10

Wonder Woman Uncovered #1 – Just like all the rest of the Uncovered Series – mountains of beautiful art. 9/10

Multiversus Collision Detected #4 – Dash gives it an 8/10

From the DC Vault: Death in the Family - Robin Lives #4 – I’ll tell you this much, as click bait as it sounds. You won’t believe what happens in this issue. Period. It’s awesome. 8.5/10

Power Girl #14 – God I love this book. It looks so good and I dig this story. This has been consistently good. 8/10

Green Lantern: Dark #1 – I really don’t know what I was expecting with this. At all. What I got was some interesting art very appropriate for the book, and a story that is brand new, a little weird, and pretty dang good. 8.5/10

John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #10 – This entire issue is Holy $#%. 9/10

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #18 – So much in this issue! Batman doubts his worthiness; Miss Martian, Jackson Hyde, and the Power of Friendship!; Harley (of course); An evil Elvis wannabe; All the Robins (plus more Robins); and Resurrection Pet Edition – This was really good. 8/10

Zatanna: Bring Down The House #5 – You are really all missing out by not reading this book. Story... Art... It's magically delicious. Really. DAER SIHT KOOB! 8.25/10

(00:24:57) Plus our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here’s the run down –

MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 – “Rated by Dash” – 4/5. This issue is just crazy but it is good and I love the pictures.

Jenny Sparks #3 – 4/10 – Evil Captain Atom kills the enti8re Justice League team. But also didn’t. Or maybe he did? And Jenny smokes. Such. Great. Writing. All points given for the art.

Batman: Full Moon #1 – 7.5/10 – An interesting story. Batman’s no stranger to horror stories, but this one feels written a little different. I enjoy it, and Subic’s art. However, Subic… stop signing interior pages. You look incredibly full of yourself when you do that. It’s in the credits. That’s the only place it needs to be.

Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #4 – 8/10 – I really hope that DKOS continues after this, like a White Knight kind of universe. Please. So fun to read, such great stories. Such good art.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 – 8.25/10 – This is a great year one story without it being an origin story. It’s not campy or with cheesy dialog. I’s written well; the art works awesome. It’s a great time.

The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley – 9/10 – This was awesome. Really. Like an origin story for the development of the Harley Quinn side of Harleen Quinzel. And Poison Ivy. It was done really well and the art works great for it too. It’s not a kid’s book, unless kids should read the F bomb, which does show up once along with some other profanity later in the book. So… if this was a movie, it would be rated PG 13.

This Is Our Land – A Blue Beetle Story – 9.5/10 – A VERY rare 9.5 from me because of how absolutely amazing this book is. There’s really not another way to describe it. It’s relevant, has real meaning, is impactful and it gives a cool bit of an origin story. And it’s written so damn well that I couldn’t peel my eyes off of it, and may even go back and read it again. Unbelievably good. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Harley Quinn in Paradise #1 – 7.75/10 - It’s a silly webcomic about Harley shortly after breaking up with the Joker. She’s pissed off a lot of criminals and Poison Ivy warns her to hide… so her idea to make everyone love her while staying safe is … get cast on a reality show looking for true love. Ooohhhh boy. This should be something. The art is good, and I like Harley’s new look at the end of the issue.

Nothing Butt Nightwing #1 – 7/10 – A webcomic about Nightwing going undercover as a model while dealing with… being dumped by Babs. For a webcomic, this was actually not too bad. I’ve seen far worse. It was enjoyable for what it was… but… if an issue is centered around Dick Grayson’s butt, only Nicola Scott should be asked to draw it. Art wasn’t bad though.

MultiVersus: Collision Detected #2 – 8/10 – This is too entertaining and funny. It shouldn’t be this good for what it is. But I can tell you that I’ve played the game and this comic book is waaay better than the game.

DC's I Know What You Did Last Crisis #1 –7.5/10 - This was okay. Some were better than others. Some art was amazing, some just good. Altogether, better than I was hoping for. The Dr Light Story and Midnighter were both really good.

DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #1 – 8/10 – A kick the door in style of introduction to the Creature Commandos and it has me curious what the rest will look like. Good stuff so far for an intro issue.

Plastic Man No More! #2 – 9/10 - This story is something else man. The art aims to be of the lighthearted variety, not super modern. Mopre classic, more cartoony. But I have a feeling that if it didn’t have that, it might be hard for some people to get through. This is an intense book. So far, by far, the best Plastic Man story ever told. This is heartbreaking.

The Nice House by the Sea #3 – 8.5/10 – Man… oh man. Al l can tell you is how good this is because if you aren’t reading it you wouldn’t understand but seriously, if you like horror and myustery… grab up the first series, nice house by the lake, and then move on to this one, nice house by trhe sea. Every issue leaves you hungry for more. Every single one.

My Adventures with Superman #5 – 8/10 – I can’t believe how good a cartoon tie-in book can be on the regular.

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #10 – 4/5 graded by Dash. He liked that it was spooky

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? #130 – 3/5 graded by Dash. He only liked the back up.

  • Jon’s Janky, Wonder Wounds, Supes Slips, Selina Saves, and Eclipso Emerges! - TGM DC Comics Review - ep 216
    Sep 20 2024

We start the show off talking about all things geek, like every week – comics, books, wrestling, action figures and more... And throughout… we kind of get off topic. This week, Josh has willed more McFarlane DC figures into existence! (It’s been like 2 years now without an error???)

    (02:05:00) New McFarlane Figures!

    (02:14:30) #BatmanSupermanWorldsFinest 31

Plus our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here’s the run down –

Jenny Sparks #2 - I can’t say anything else about this book except I hate it. Like, with a passion. And that’s because King turned Captain Atom into an arrogant evil wannabe Dr Manhattan, quite literally he just wants to be a god… this is beyond stupid. Can barely even consider the art. King shits ALL OVER the characters he writes. He sucks and he knows it and great art can’t save it. Nothing redeemable. 3/10.

John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #9 - This is the grimiest magic-based noir that I’ve ever read and it’s absolutely great. A while lot goes sideways, and Constantine is getting a bit closer… and… the art fits the book so well. And also? This is weird, but Arron Campbell drew a dress on Clarice that may be the prettiest piece of clothing that I have ever seen on a comic book character. 8.25/10

Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #3 - I didn’t expect to go into this liking it more than the original. I’m not there quite yet, but I am getting damn close. And the occasional explosive use of color in this book makes it all even more gorgeous. 8/10

Batman - The Long Halloween - The Last Halloween #1 - Catwoman, Gilda, Two-Face. Calendar Man, Jim Gordon, Batman and Robin all pick up where the last installment left off. This was a really fun read for me. I thought it odd at first that the Long Halloween was being expanded upon, but now? Give me the next 9 issues. 7.75/10

Multiversus - Collision Detection #1 - The only thing that I knew to expect from this one is that it’s a video game tie-in. What I didn’t expect was it to be so fun for my 8-year-old to read. He loved it and gives it a 4/5 (he won’t judge on 1-10 no matter how many times I ask).

Joker The World - With an all star cast of writers, artists, colorists, and letterers, going in, you have to know that at least some of this has got to be good, right? Well, it’s a whole bunch of non-connected Joker stories. Some art is great. Some is fantastic, some I’m not a fan of but it fits the story so very well. I don’t quite understand it, normally, I wouldn’t like this kind of thing. But Joker The World was really good. And there’s a Joker the World Free Batman Day Special Edition that might still be at your Local Comic Shop if you’d like a preview to all of them. For the book? It gets 7.5/10

Batman Day 2024: Batman / Elmer Fudd Special #1 - This was a way better story than it deserved to be. Way better. I really enjoyed it. We didn’t need the backup at all in this book, but it wasa fun quick read as well. I am very pleasantly surprised. 8/10

Batman - Elmer Fudd Special Noir Edition #1 - See above, but in black and white.

There’s also a whole bunch of facsimile editions - Crisis on infinite earths, Detective 27, variants and foils, etc. so go check those out as well.

Plus, our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here’s the run down –

Primer: Clashing Colors #3 – reading this series has actually made me want Primer in the main universe alongside the Titans. It’s for younger readers, but this is pretty good. 8/10

Nightwing: Uncovered #1 – a collection of covers with a little story from Dick, Babs, and Hailey explaining why we’re looking at covers. 9/10

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #2 – Will I ever get Vampires fatigue? I can’t tell. I don’t have it yet. Good stuff. Really good stuff. 8/10

    Batman '89: Echoes #4 – I bet Rob still isn’t reading this, and it’s still a mistake.

From the DC Vault: Death in the Family - Robin Lives #3 – For something that I was pretty sure was going to stink to the mountaintops, I’m actually really impressed with this series. It feels like your back in that time period and the story has really done well. I would have easily enjoyed it if this was the story we got… but then we wouldn’t have a Red Hood, sooooo…. Anyway, this is good stuff, 8/10

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - The Kryptonian Age #4 – This book is buts. In a very good way. What they did with the Lantern… so cool. And so many questions. Gimme more of this book. 8.5/10
