  • From Cockpit to Courtroom: Hear a Pilot's Journey to Redemption After Getting a DUI.
    Mar 9 2024
In this installment of The Corporate Pilot Guy's Podcast, I delve into another segment of aviation that increases safety through prevention by talking to a pilot who was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The guest for this episode is Mac and he shares his experience getting a DUI, possible jail time, court, impact on his family, and losing his FAA medical. Mac was in the process of becoming a professional pilot and had completed up to his commercial pilot's certificate. When he had the DUI, his dreams of becoming a professional pilot were put on hold indefinitely, and possibly forever. The process to get an FAA medical after having a DUI arrest is difficult beyond having a medical exam by a HIMS Aviation Medical Examiner. Mac details the process of getting his medical back, cost involved in getting a DUI, and how the DUI changed his life. This episode is meant to share one person's experience from making a bad decision involving alcohol and driving. Second, to aid in the prevention of making the decision to drive while drunk. Thank you to Mac for sharing his story to help others. • TAs and RAs, Turbine Engine Starters, Rob Saw a Smoker!
    Feb 25 2024

TCAS makes aviation safer by alerting the flight crew of conflicting traffic by issuing a TA and possibly an RA. Find out what TCAS, TA, and what RA are in this episode. We briefly talk about the unfortunate accident in Naples, Florida involving a Challenger 604. Differences in types of starters installed on turbine engines and why a restart would not have been possible in this situation, based on what is known at this time. This episode's pilot tip is presented by John, a Corporate Pilot on a Cessna Citation X. • Aircraft Pressurization and Supplemental Oxygen
    Jan 27 2024
Rob and Tim discuss how aircraft pressurization works in corporate jets and in airliners. Pressurized aircraft make flight at high altitudes possible and usually flawless. However, things can occasionally can go wrong with aircraft pressurization, we will discuss the backup systems available to pilots, crew and passengers, when things doesn't work as planned. We will also discuss crew and passenger oxygen systems. As always, if you have any questions about this or any topic we discuss, please reach out to us, we will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner (please see contact methods below). • Wright Brothers, Curtiss-Wright, Part 61 vs Part 141 Training
    Dec 16 2023
We discuss the Wright Brothers to celebrate the 120th anniversary of their first flight on December 17, 1903. How did the Wright Flyer's wing get its inspiration? Did the Wright Flyer use a catapult on the first flight? Were both Wright Brothers born in Dayton, Ohio? Is there video of the Wright Brothers' first flight? Learn the answers to these questions and more such as why one wing was longer on the original Wright Flyer than the other, in this aviation podcast. The Wright brothers changed the world but also with collaboration with Glenn Curtiss, the Curtiss-Wright Corporation was formed and a spin-off of an employee from that company formed another very well-known, major aviation company that is still going strong today. A listener question from our Discord server asks the difference between training at a part 61 vs part 141 program. That question is answered and so much more.
