The Cookbook Collective

By: The Cookbook Collective
  • Summary

  • The Cookbook Collective is an online community that hopes to communicate the realities of food relationships for young adults. We are here to help our generation build and navigate more balanced relationships with food in a culture that has come to deprioritize the importance of food in all parts of our lives . By actively deconstructing negative food cultures and discussing the intersectionality of food issues through a biweekly podcast we hope to build community around mental health, sustainability, food justice, and more. We will be sharing recipes which express our personal food stories and hope to connect with our community through cooking, conversation, and advocacy. There is a world of food beyond health and nutrition that we want to explore in balanced and engaging ways! However, it’s important that navigating the world of food is more understandable and safe for young adults everywhere.

On the fourth episode of The Cookbook Collective podcast, we get real about the extremes of veganism and how they are a misrepresentation of veganism as a whole!

Veganism is an individual lifestyle choice. So... when we hear that people are reprimanding others for their own food choices, we get a little concerned.

We do a deep dive on Alkaline Vegan Culture, a sub-category of veganism that prioritizes raw foods and uses pseudoscience to create a highly-restrictive and dangerous diet that appeals to our health-conscious generation. Here at The Cookbook Collective, all food is healthy food and we are here to hold people accountable for thinking otherwise!

On our third episode of the Social Media Food Culture series, The Cookbook Collective creates a new phenomenon: rice cracker culture

But this episode is much more than Quaker Oats, we get real on how false nutrition myths have normalized malnutrition among young adults. This "culture" fetishizes "low-calorie," "low-carb" food that gives young adults the false promise of rapid weight loss to meet the repetitive, and unrealistic, body image expectations we all feel pressured to meet.

This episode touches on how unbalanced food relationships are a hidden health crisis among our generation. As a collective, we are here to address toxic food realities, and relearn how to nourish our minds, bodies, and souls- together.
