For our second episode on the Bingo Podcast we catch up with the MOQI project at the HIMMS 2018 conference in Las Vegas.

Dr. Gregory Alexandar and Susan Shumate, RN talk about the exciting things they are doing to improve care in the LTC continuum.

Our mission is to improve quality of care for nursing home residents. We do that through the Quality Improvement Program for Missouri (QIPMO), a service funded by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to staff members of nursing homes in Missouri to improve direct care practices; Leadership Coaching, a service also funded by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to the leaders to improve Missouri nursing home business and personnel operations; the Missouri Quality Initiative (MOQI), a Centers for Medicaid and Medicare sponsored initiative to reduce avoidable hospitalizations of nursing home residents and improve quality of care nationwide; and the Observable Indicators of Quality Guide (OIQ) developed from a grant from the National Institutes of Nursing Research of the National Institutes of Health to identify good quality nursing homes when looking for such services.

Gero-informatics research and national health policy along with IT effects on quality of care in nursing homes and long term care. Development organizations and health policy about nursing practice that impacts geriatric patients is also a focus. Recently Dr. Alexandar completed a book titled "An Introduction to Health Information Technology in Long Term Care Settings" which can be found on Amazon.
