The Beauty Of Independence

By: Ben Carter/The 5th Element Podcast Network
  • Summary

  • Join Ben Carter (HipHopNumbers) as he sits down with independent artists across the whole spectrum of creation - music, poetry, journalism, visual design. If it's art, it's here. This is the essence of independent creation. It's about shining a light on the hardest workers in music and art, uncovering their process and inspiring others to strike out on their own and create something untouched by convention and popular opinion. Each conversation is stamped with the unique personality and experience of the artist, and each is filled with bravery, grind, and genuine insight. A 5EPN Original.

Join Kembe X as he delivers gem after gem about mental health, what it's like to be an independent artist, working with Ab-Soul, being good friends with Isaiah Rashad, existing in the Top Dawg orbit, and why his personality doesn't always translate comfortably to social media

His most recent album "I Was Depressed Until I Made This" was a huge source of inspiration for this interview, which was actually first conducted back in May 2021, because I was struck down by an epic depressive episode. It's now February 2022 and I am only now uploading this interview, because I was far too unwell to put the finishing touches on it

Throughout my own depressive episode it was Kembe's words and music that helped me and gave me a sense of belonging and understanding. I really hope he can do the same for you too.
