TGE #76 - Cassandra Alexander - Year of the Nurse, COVID Wards, Nursing, PTSD

  • Summary

  • CASSANDRA ALEXANDER RN - Cassandra (aka Cassie) Alexander is a nurse. She spent ten years of her career working in a burns ward of a US hospital, loving her job and the tough but important role of caring for burns victims.

Then in 2020 we were all struck by the COVID19 pandemic.

So Cassie took her skills working in what are referred to as isolation wards, to become a COVID ward nurse.

That’s when things changed. So in 2021 she wrote about her experience in a book titled YEAR OF THE NURSE. That book is a 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic Memoir in the words of someone who knows what it is like behind the closed doors of the COVID ward.

In this episode, George chatted with Cassie about her experiences in the ward, dealing with the hospitalised victims of COVID19, misunderstandings out there about masks and vaccinations, nurses coping with stress and PTSD.

It is a super interesting story that will surely awaken you and give you a much greater appreciation of the tough role nurses have to perform, and maybe .. just maybe help you to not become a COVID19 hospitalisation statistic yourself.

Remember, if you are experiencing signs and symptoms of PTSD, remember to speak up and get help.
