In this deeply reflective episode of Decoding 2 Sides of the System, I open up about my personal journey through loss, trauma, and finding purpose. Growing up without a father and later facing the heartbreak of losing my aunt left me grappling with grief and anger. These experiences could have broken me, but they became the catalyst for discovering the power of mental health and therapy.
I talk about the challenges of being a young African American man in a single-parent household, the emotional struggles of seeing my mother with other partners, and how I managed to work through feelings of anger and frustration. My aunt's death hit me hard, pushing me into a dark place of regret and guilt for not saying everything I wanted to. It was through this pain that I sought therapy, where I learned to heal, grow, and eventually pursue a degree in psychology.
In this episode, I share how therapy helped me discover my purpose—helping others confront their mental health struggles. I reflect on the importance of expressing emotions, managing grief, and shifting from a mindset of “Why me?” to “Why not me?” I want to inspire others who may be struggling, letting them know that their pain can lead to purpose and growth.
Whether you're dealing with loss, feeling stuck, or looking for guidance on your mental health journey, this episode serves as a reminder that struggles don’t define you—they are stepping stones to growth and healing.
