  • Sylvia Likens was a 16-year-old girl who was brutally tortured and murdered in 1965 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her case is often considered one of the most horrific instances of child abuse in American history. The crime was perpetrated by her caregiver, Gertrude Baniszewski, and several of Baniszewski’s children and neighborhood kids.
