Safe Realty

  • Summary

  • Join your host Shannon Cutler, a former police officer with 18 years of investigative experience, now a real estate agent, as she educates realtors on how to handle their own security in vulnerable situations.

Welcome to Safe Realty! It’s a place where we take the opposing side of true crime - we call it true crime prevention.

Soon after starting real estate two agents in the office disclosed they were being followed by the same man at their open houses. They didn’t know how to handle the situation. Another local agent had to call the police after encountering an irate tenant during a showing. Most recently, an agent in Ontario was murdered during the showing of a rural property. These are just a few stories, of the many, that come up on a regular basis. All of that preempted the start of talking about all things realtor® safety.

Since 2018 Shannon has trained hundreds of Realtors® in real estate safety. Now it is your turn to join her.

We will jump in head first in this weekly podcast, sharing alarming stories from around the globe, tips for best safe business practices, and expert advice with special guests.

    True-crime prevention at its best.

    Be safe everyone.

  • 911 What is your emergency? : A 911 Operator Insights into Real Estate Agent Safety
    Feb 18 2025

In this episode, I speak with Carolyn, a friend and seasoned 911 dispatcher. In fact, she was my emergency dispatcher at one point. Full circle moment.

What happens when you are with a client, as a real estate agent, and find yourself in dangerous situation, but unable to speak. How do you tell the 911 operator how to help you? Find out today.

As a real estate agent in an emergency, what do we do? When do we call 911? And if we call 911 what happens next? We also talk about what constitutes an emergency (not your dinner reservations that are cancelled), how to handle accidental calls, and the technology used in dispatching. Carolyn shares humorous anecdotes from her years of experience, emphasizing the human side of dispatching and the need for patience and kindness during emergencies.

Do not order pizza as a means of a 'code' for an emergency.

Carolyn says, "when in doubt, phone." Be kind, be patient, be clear!
