S1, Ep1: Nicola Larder | Creator, Marcella | Inspiration From The Everyday

  • Summary

  • On the first-ever episode of Unlocking Creativity, I'm speaking with Nicola Larder. An incredible woman who's worked her way up through the ranks of scripted television, going from receptionist at a production company to the creator of globally successful, Emmy Award inning Netflix drama Marcella, starring Anna Friel. The series has now been shown in over 200 territories and continues to receive rave reviews.

With Marcella's third season coming later in 2019 along with a brand new drama called Cobra, it's been a very busy but creatively rewarding summer for Nicola. After a whole lot of diary juggling, we eventually managed to sit down together and I'm very happy we did! There was a whole lot of goodness to come of it, including what it takes to create a hit drama and why we shouldn't be afraid to look closer to home for our creative inspiration.

Three Takeaways From This Episode Include:

    • Why we should be getting away from our desks and routine to be at our creative best.
    • How Nicola up with both the character and concept for her series, Marcella.

    • Nicola’s way of reaching out to collaborators by what she calls ‘professional romances’.
