  • Deep Ellum success story Jim Heath a.k.a. Reverend Horton Heat is from Corpus Christi Texas, played in many bands including Teddy and the Tall Tops and the Polytones. While doing sound at the Theatre Gallery in 1984 during the inception of the modern Deep Ellum scene Jim was writing songs about divorce, played some for Russell Hobbs in the backyard of The Prophet bar, Russell pushed Jim on stage, named him Horton Heat and Monday night at The Prophet bar was the place to be. Reverend Horton Heat blew up started playing locally, regionally and has become internationally recognized as the modern day godfather of rockabilly. Jim Heath has made his mark on modern culture carrying the torch of real music to multi generations. 12 important albums including Smoke Em if You Got Em, Liquor in the Front (Sub Pop) Its Martini Time (Interscope) Whole New Life (Victory Records) Movie soundtracks highlights- Ace Ventura When Nature Calls, Free Willy the Rescue, Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas TV appearances- Late Night Conan Obrien, John Stewart Show, Drew Carey Show, Dexter New Blood.
