Retro Movie Club

By: Blake Brett Richard Hyde
  • Summary

  • 2 guys from the UK who think they know about films watch stuff and then talk about it in a podcast. Looking at films around the 80s, and 90s, but sometimes we step outside the lines 😏. You can watch the same film they plan to watch and join in the discussion. Join the Discord chat - https://bit.ly/ra-film-club

  • Retro Movie Club Ep#13 - Trick 'r Treat (2007)
    Nov 16 2024

Welcome to Warren Valley for The Retro Movie Club's Halloween extravaganza!! You'd better follow the rules though, don't blow out your jack o’ lantern before midnight, always give candy to trick or treaters and never take your decorations down before November 1st - otherwise Sam will get you!!
As well as discussing the movie, we listen to Blake's tales of going bin diving, Rich listens to all of Iron Maiden's albums and we discuss the career of horror legend, Tony Todd. Enjoy this spooktacular episode…watch out for those pesky werewolf parties though!!

Note: Sorry for the volume issues that Blake was having with his microphone during this episode. A change of recording location meant that an alternative recording device had to be used and as such caused some problems in the final edit.

"You're behind on points and time is running out. The ref looks half asleep. A quick head butt and a sly punch below the belt and your opponent is toppling over. But as he falls, his knee strikes you a paralysing blow. "Foul!" shouts the crown, and your opponent is disqualified.

You've won, but in the next championship contest you meet a boxer who knows more dirty tricks than you. It needs skill and cunning, lightning reflexes and deadly strategy. Have you got what it takes to become the World Champion - By Fair Means or Foul?"

    Nov 6 2024

In episode 12, the Movie Club boys are off-grid and broadcasting from an undisclosed location to avoid detection from the security services! Being careful not to use any of the keywords that will trigger government interception, we talk about Enemy of the State, starring Gene Hackman and Will Smith. We discuss how the film holds up 26 years later, lingerie shop customer service and we try a new beer! As well as all this, we talk about Blake’s nightmare journey to Minehead and discuss more Harry Potter than we anticipated! The NSA have caught up with us, we have to get out of here and hope to be back for our next episode!

  • Retro Movie Club Ep#11 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
    Oct 17 2024

After seemingly being taken by aliens and dumped in the desert, Blake and Rich have found their way back to civilisation, after a long break, to talk about Speilberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Along the way, we talk dirt through the kitchen window, the presence of other people at the cinema, cricket legend Freddie Flintoff and get all nostalgic about ‘The Spectrum’. Strap in and start practising those musical notes for when the aliens make contact!!
