  • Why Do People Think Oasis Sucks?
    Oct 2 2024

Why is Oasis a lightning rod for opinion? Most fans love them. Then there are a bunch that just... errr well don't like them. Oasis is a British rock band formed in 1991 in Manchester, known for their influential role in the Britpop movement of the 1990s. The band's core lineup featured brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, with Liam as the lead vocalist and Noel as the primary songwriter and guitarist. Oasis gained worldwide fame with albums like Definitely Maybe (1994) and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995), which included hits like "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back in Anger," and "Champagne Supernova."

Their music is marked by a blend of rock, pop, and heavy influences from The Beatles. Despite their success, the Gallagher brothers had a famously tumultuous relationship, leading to the band's breakup in 2009. Since then, both Liam and Noel have pursued solo careers, with fans eagerly awaiting a potential reunion. Despite being complete **holes, they write great tunes according to humans. Not that we want to poke the YOUTUBE bear but here are some links to resources outside of youtube and reasons why people dislike the band: Oasis was a chart-topping band in the 1990s that was both beloved and hated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oasis_(band) Some people have criticized the band for various reasons, including:

    1. Liam Gallagher's attitude One Medium article mentions a friend who called Oasis "friggin' losers" and suggested that Liam Gallagher's attitude was the reason for his opinion. https://medium.com/@andyfrye/all-hail-oasis-the-90s-most-hated-and-beloved-band-f8aa3d0f655c#:~:text=I%20remember%20the%20ire%20from,as%20good%20as%20The%20Beatles

    2. Sounding like The Beatles Some people have complained that Oasis sounds like The Beatles, or that they try too hard to sound like them. Oasis is known for being influenced by The Beatles, and even covered three of their songs: "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away", "Helter Skelter", and "I Am the Walrus". Actually nice little song breakdown here:

    3. Suggesting they're as good as The Beatles Some people have criticized Oasis for once suggesting that they were as good as The Beatles. https://www.nme.com/news/music/noel-gallagher-on-how-embarrassing-it-was-for-oasis-to-be-compared-to-the-beatles-3097649

  • Real Brave Live: School Of Rock Smells Like Teen Spirit (sorta)
    Jun 3 2024

Wouldn't it be great if we all had a movie about us to make us more successful in life? The School of Rock franchise, a renowned music school with hundreds of locations, has an intriguing connection to the entertainment industry that goes beyond just sharing a name with the 2003 film "School of Rock." Directed by Richard Linklater, this comedy about a struggling rock guitarist who becomes a substitute teacher at a prep school and forms a band with his students, not only entertained millions but also sparked interest in music education. Despite initial appearances, the School of Rock music program predates the movie, founded by Paul Green in 1998 in Philadelphia. This performance-based music education program aimed to accelerate students' progress through group practices and live performances.

The franchise's growth and public perception were undoubtedly influenced by the film's success, along with subsequent adaptations, including a Broadway musical and a TV series on Nickelodeon. While these fictional representations popularized the concept of music schools focusing on rock, they also raised questions about the interplay between reality and fiction in the public's understanding of music education. The real School of Rock, under Green's guidance, emphasized hands-on learning and performance, a philosophy that aligns with, yet distinctly operates from, the narratives portrayed on screen.

Paul Green's initiative has expanded significantly since its inception, transitioning leadership and rebranding to further align with its evolving identity. The curiosity and attention garnered from the film and its adaptations have undoubtedly contributed to the franchise's growth, offering a unique case of life imitating art and vice versa. This symbiotic relationship between the School of Rock's real-life educational programs and their fictional counterparts has not only enhanced the school's visibility but also sparked a broader interest in music education among youth, challenging traditional perceptions and inspiring a new generation of musicians.

As the School of Rock continues to evolve, its story serves as a testament to the power of media in shaping educational ventures and cultural phenomena, illustrating the complex dynamics between entertainment and real-world inspiration.
