    Most coaches will need a content approach to nurture their future clients. This is called generosity marketing and it’s still the #1 visibility approach for coaches.

    Sadly, much of the content coaches put out is unoriginal so it doesn’t help the coach stand out and attract ideal clients.

    The 3 main content delivery methods paired with social posting are:

    1. Podcasting + Guest Podcasting

    2. Videos, such as YouTube and Lives on Socials

    3. Blogs and Article Placement

    To make any of these approaches work well for you, you’ll need to be clever about driving traffic to your client-winning website from the content and have smart conversion processes set up there with tailor-made offers for one unique audience.

    New coaches can feel so exuberant about coaching that they search for inappropriate opportunities to use their new skills.

    I did this several times until I realized it was disrespectful. In one painful situation, I coached a troubled friend, and it caused a rift that took years to heal.

    It can look like this … You perceive that someone is struggling and believe they “need” coaching. The belief that someone NEEDS coaching and the subsequent longing are signs to reign in the impulse to coach.

    It comes down to this — to coach ethically, you and the person you are coaching must step consciously into the co-creative role and, later, step fully out of it.

    That’s why coaching is best done in a professional relationship with a paying client where consent is explicit.

    When I first started my business, I was pretty precious about every little thing.

    I purchased beautiful little envelopes and cards in my brand colors and paraphernalia with my brand logo on it thinking everyone would want those things.

    I sent my clients onboarding packages by mail with a fancy notebook, pen and, what I thought were other fun things.

    Of course, I didn’t consider the expense of these things either in my time or how it was digging into my profits.

    I spent so much time on things that I thought mattered and not enough time on the things that really did.

    Sometimes, I would send my clients birthday and Christmas gifts. I put a lot of thought into them.

    And when I didn’t, it was because I couldn’t decide what to send and I would feel badly about that.

    I wanted my clients to feel special. I wanted to show them I cared. And, I think I may have been compensating for my newness as a coach because I felt I was not enough.

    Let’s talk about giving gifts to clients and whether it’s a good idea or … not.

    It breaks my heart to see so many coaches stuck. I’ve been there.

    When new coaches reach out to work with me, I ask them for a snapshot of what they're doing to build their business.

    Nearly all admit that their head is spinning because they’re doing stuff like this:

    · Looking at other coach's websites, which inevitably is anxiety producing. And, you don’t know if that site is client-winning or a dud.

    · Force feeding massive amount of information.

    · Surfing for answers to BIG questions like how do I choose my niche or what do I need to do to earn well as a coach? Answers are complex and it’s best to get actual support for those things.

    · And, investing in programs out of fear, sure this next shiny object will solve all their problems.

    That fire hose of confusing information leaves you breathless with overwhelm and unable to move forward.

    This is what I call the new coach swirl and spin and it’s time to snap out of it.

    One of my VIP clients emailed me asking if she could coach me in our next session to get more practice.

    It wasn’t without risk. How might it affect our mentoring relationship?

    I decided to say ‘yes’. It had to be something real for me because making something up would not give her practice. And it needed to be complex enough to truly challenge her.

    I had been deliberating about a very serious decision. Something that involved my health, finances and it affected my partner too. I felt gifted because I really did need an objective person to share this dilemma with.

    So in our next session we jumped into the co-creative relationship.

    My client’s coaching was near to flawless. I came away from the conversation feeling clear about my next step.

    She asked for feedback and it was easy to give her praise about a dozen things. There was only one thing that I thought needed correction ...

    As a highly experienced coach, I can say without hesitation that not every coach will be the best client for me. And not every client will be the best client for you either.

    In fact, some clients could end up being difficult to work with. In that case you and the client may suffer each time you have a session. And that’s sad because here you are intending to do good yet harm could be done.

    I assure you, it’s not because there’s anything wrong with that client or that there’s anything wrong with you. It comes down to how well the client aligns with you and you align with the client.

    Just the idea of money is fraught with complicated beliefs stemming from our childhoods and even further back than that. \

    Unhelpful beliefs about worth and earning and money are deeply rooted into our cultures and ancestry. So it’s not surprising that we all struggle with money mindset.

    · Most have worthiness issues and that feels like imposter syndrome.

    · Some people don’t think they should charge for coaching because it’s a helping service.

    · And for some, money is distasteful — a dirty thing. No doubt many dirty things have been done in the pursuit of money since humans started walking Earth.

    But money itself is just a tool. That’s an important shift right there. It’s a neutral tool that, at this point in human existence, most need to employ to live.
