Por u n lado, se ocupa de los escritos joánicos, es decir, las obras atribuidas a san Juan, el hijo de Zebedeo; y, por otro, de las llamadas cartas católicas, es decir, las cartas de Santiago, Pedro, Juan y Judas (si bien las que se atribuyen a Juan se estudian dentro del corpus joánico).
