  • 宵空には2つの0等級の星、うしかい座のアークトゥルスと、こと座のベガが目立ちます。


    うしかい座の隣にあるかんむり座。普段は10等級で見えない かんむり座T星は、約80年ごとに爆発を起こして明るくなる再帰新星です。予測では今年9月ころまでに新星爆発を起こし、2～3等級の明るさで見えるといいます。普段から かんむり座を見慣れておいて、いざ新星のニュースを耳にしたら違いを確かめてみましょう。


    ヘルクレス座の腰あたりにある球状星団M13。半世紀前の1974年にアレシボ・メッセージと呼ばれる知的生命体へ向けた電波の信号が送られたことがあります。この星団までの距離は約2万5千光年、一回の往復の通信でも5万年かかります。星の見えない夜は今も宇宙を旅する宇宙人に向けたメッセージを想ってみては。
