The Pina Colada, which means 'strained pineapple' in Spanish, hails from Puerto Rico and is celebrated as its national drink. The cocktail is believed to have been created by bartender Ramón "Monchito" Marrero at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan in 1954. He aimed to capture the flavors of the tropics in a single glass, and after some experimentation, the Pina Colada was born.
