Welcome back to "Cocktails," the podcast where we blend history, preparation tips, and little-known facts about your favorite drinks. Today, we're setting sail with the Pina Colada, a tropical treat that's synonymous with beach vacations and sunny days. The Pina Colada, which means 'strained pineapple' in Spanish, hails from Puerto Rico and is celebrated as its national drink. The cocktail is believed to have been created by bartender Ramón "Monchito" Marrero at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan in 1954. He aimed to capture the flavors of the tropics in a single glass, and after some experimentation, the Pina Colada was born.
