Paul Wiltshire is somewhat of a music maverick, in the most positive ways of course. He started his music career as a pop writer and music producer amassing an impressive 12 Number One hits and a further 28 Top 20 hits with the likes of Delta Goodrem, Vanessa Amorossi, Human Nature and The Backstreet Boys. Even more impressive is the fact that he has made an album with Engelbert Humperdinck, but I digress here!
He then went and made a massive U-Turn and pivoted to music tech and boy what a change it has been. His company, Songtradr, has in a relatively short period of time managed to raise a staggering $180 million US! No mean feat for anyone, let alone a pop music producer from Australia. What is Songtradr and where does it fit in within the global music landscape? And why did they buy Bandcamp? Further to this, why did they invest in the Vinyl Group, an Australian based music and multi-media company that houses Jaxta (the IMDB of the music publishing industry), Brag Media (home to Rolling Stone Magazine and The Music Network) and Vampr (a social network platform that connects musicians globally). So many questions, all of which will be answered by Paul in this week's BIG THINKER episode.
