Pamoja: On the Wings of Hope

By: Abraham Mateta
  • Summary

  • Pamoja is a Swahili word which means "together". Hope is something which no one should allow to be stolen no matter how one is oppressed or marginalised. Unity and hope can bring inclusive development. The podcast challenges all forms of oppression and systemic exclusion but also shares stories of those who have through great fortitude made it against all odds.

In this episode, we have a guest presenter, Hazina from Kenya. Mukoma A reflects on his birthday which was on the 8th of April. Zimbabwe will be celebrating independence soon but what does independence mean and how should the history of the fight for liberation of African states be captured? Has independence brought to persons with disabilities any share of the national cake and how can there be independent living in an inter-dependent society? The podcast ends with a song from Mukoma A called “Tongai” and it’s a prayer for Zimbabwe but even Africa for leadership to feel for the people.

Many Christians are observing a holiday in which they remember the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Even to those Christians who don’t observe the holiday, the death and resurrection of Jesus remain central teachings of the faith. In a world where faith teachers and preachers increasingly  emphasise on healing, what hope do persons with disabilities have in taking part in Christian activities? Will they be accepted and acceptable as equal children of God for whom Christ also died?

We will hear from Mukoma A as he addresses the Seventh Day Adventist church in Highlands, Harare, Zimbabwe.  Reverent Green is a minister of the gospel  with the Pentecostal Assembles of Zimbabwe and he shares on his journey as a blind minister. We will also hear from Reverent Paradza of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe on the position of her church concerning persons with disabilities. We will conclude with a moving testimony from a brother in Kenya.
