  • Episode 10- DM a therapist- So I did this big thing… why do I feel down?
    Sep 8 2022

    Hey folks,

I have gratitude for clients who, since 2008, have let me have a front-row seat to their struggles and successes with transitions and post-highlight events.  Your trust and hard work towards personal growth still inspire me today!

Most of what we do is learn to identify and accept the feelings(not endorse but intentionally accept them for what they are) in order to move forward and choose our next course of action. This might sound simple, but it is hard and consistent work nonetheless.

Our question in this segment came from the cycling community (you folks rock!) but I feel that this discussion might resonate with all of us who have had to work hard towards a specific goal which led us to new guideposts in our lives.  According to this article, if you’re unsure if you might have post-workout blues, here are a few valuable questions to ask yourself https://www.verywellfit.com/in-the-forum-can-exercise-cause-depression-3976865 (consulted on 30 August 2022, 3:40 pm).

We aim to answer in terms of life transitions and psychotherapy view lens as to how you can better manage the feelings triggered as a result of a big event such as a big race or a milestone at work/home.   Having pushed myself right before the recording of the podcast, I had my version of this I had a fresh perspective to offer, but I am the first to acknowledge that what works for me, might not work for you.  If you feel worried that this might be more, I encourage you to reach out to a mental health specialist or your family doctor/local hospital.

This episode was such a great experience where you get to hear our take on accepting ourselves as we are in the moment and be still with physical and emotional sensations in order to: stop, re-assess, and move forward with new knowledge and resilience.

Thank you so much for listening!

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

    LP Landry, MA, RP, CCC.

  • Episode 9: Let's talk about fear
    Jun 8 2022

    Hey driven people!

Matt and I are back doing what we do best: choose a subject and dive deep into the minutia of fear philosophically and psychotherapeutically.  Of course, we can’t talk about fear without its close cousin: anger. Anger is contrasted to violence which is behaviour and anger is a primary emotion that can be very useful.

In our own brand of finding our way, we tackle the topic which brings insight into both our takes on this ever-evolving topic of fear. We elaborate on this topic which will become a pillar conversation on which we will build upon in other offerings of our podcast regarding the management of fear in cycling.

This episode will mark our “off-season” for the tales of Mind, Body, and Relationships part of our podcast.  Have no fear (pun intended) our “DM therapist” segments will keep us excited all summer.

    Season 1 was a blast!

Thank you so much Matt, Vicki and all the listeners of Overcome Café: Tales of Mind, Body, and Relationships.

    Stay driven and vulnerable,

    LP Landry
