  • ON THE HOUSE: ON THE ROAD with ALASTAIR CAMPBELL and guest host CLIVE TYLDESLEY
    Nov 29 2019
“Hello! Hello! Here we go…” In an On the House first, Dr Phillip Lee is in the hot seat along with returning guest Alastair Campbell - asking the questions this week is one of the most recognisable voices in Britain, veteran football commentator Clive Tyldesley.  He was in the commentator's box during the Champions League Final in 2005, and during England's defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016, only the second worst British-based national embarrassment of that year. Three points for guessing the first. He’s one of many in the game who refuse to just “stick to football” and is a strong supporter of a People’s Vote.  He lives in the constituency Phillip hopes to win at the election - and believes the media has let the public down over Brexit. He asks Phillip and Alastair how we got to this point, and where we might go from here.  Thanks to The George pub in Winnersh, and to Phillip's potential constituents who gave us another On The House first - spontaneous applause once the recording wrapped. Audio production by Alex Rees. Producer: Andrew Harrison. Theme music: ‘The Wind-Up’ by Brian Lipps, under licence from premiumbeat.com. ON THE HOUSE is a Podmasters production. • RISKY BUSINESS with guest David Henig
    Nov 22 2019
On The House is back in Westminster this week after a trip up the Westway to Kensington. Dr Philip Lee is away, so Sam takes the wheel.  After Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson’s ITV debate, are we any closer to knowing who’ll step into Number 10 on Friday, December 13th? Sam is joined by trade policy expert David Henig, who provides a dose of realism to the Brexit debate in his capacity as the director of the UK Trade Policy Project at the European Centre for International Political Economy. “They’re asking how we can get this trade deal done quickly,” says David. “Perhaps we should be asking how to get it done right…”  Sam and David also discuss the freshly launched Lib Dem manifesto, and who they’d want in the fantasy trade negotiators team. Mourinho does not get a look in.  Thanks to the Hamptons Bar in near St James’ Park for hosting us this week.  Audio production and scripting by Alex Rees. Producer: Andrew Harrison. Theme music: ‘The Wind-Up’ by Brian Lipps, under licence from premiumbeat.com. ON THE HOUSE is a Podmasters production. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. • THROUGH THE CAMPAIGN BARRIER with guest Vince Cable
    Nov 15 2019
As Election 2019 gets more intense and even more unpleasant, Phillip Lee and Sam Gyimah head into West London for a drink with a true heavyweight of the Lib Dems – Sir Vince Cable, former leader of the party, Secretary of State for Business, outgoing Twickenham MP and light-footed ballroom dancing legend. What wisdom can he impart to these two new Lib Dem candidates?  Plus: Who’s having the worst General Election campaign so far: the Conservatives or Labour?  Have the Lib Dems finally shaken off the burden of the Coalition? Just how volatile is the electorate? And is Boris Johnson the election winner that the Conservatives think he is? “People can see Johnson is a rogue,” says Vince. “Once people see they’re being offered two fairly unattractive options, I think they’ll turn to us in numbers.”  Special thanks to the wonderful staff of The Prince in West Brompton for looking after us. Splendid drinks and excellent street food on the doorstep of the constituency Sam hopes to win in December (we recommend the rosemary fries from onsite burger vendor Patty & Bun).  Audio production by Alex Rees. Producer: Andrew Harrison. Theme music: ‘The Wind-Up’ by Brian Lipps, under licence from premiumbeat.com. ON THE HOUSE is a Podmasters production.
