On Discovering a Process, with Genevieve Leavold

  • Summary

  • In this episode of The Artist Inclusive Podcast, hosts Anna Rosa and Shanga Parker are joined by Genevieve Leavold. Genevieve is an abstract painter from the UK. The daughter of a religion and philosophy teacher, she was exposed to the texts of world religions from a young age and this informs her approach to painting and life. She uses abstraction to ask questions about who we are and our relationship to the natural world. There is a vital element of movement to her painting process: each brushstroke tells a story, as the spontaneous strokes are unplanned but an intuitive response to the layers and colours beneath, creating balance and harmony within the half-formed shapes. Echoes of plant forms, water and landscapes are present in her paintings but slip and slide into something new. Genevieve has exhibited widely in the UK, Europe and USA and has paintings in private and corporate collections worldwide. She is currently based in Frome, UK. In this very insightful conversation, Genevieve explains her journey to her creative process, her international inspirations, and how she discovered her method.
