  • Santa María Goretti, virgen y mártir, que en el transcurso de una infancia difícil, ayudando a su madre en las labores de la casa, se distinguió ya por su piedad. Cuando no contaba más que doce años, murió en defensa de su castidad, a causa de las puñaladas que le asestó un joven que intentaba violarla cuando se hallaba sola en su casa, cercana a la localidad de Nettuno, en la región del Lacio, en Italia († 1902).
