Em 6 de junho de 1944, tropas de 15 países diferentes começaram a desembarcar na Normandia, numa ação que juntou forças de terra, mar e ar para desafiar o domínio da Alemanha nazista na Europa ocidental. O chamado Dia D foi o momento inicial de uma campanha que levou dois milhões de soldados para a França e decidiu o destino da Segunda Guerra Mundial.
