• S1E131 - Episode 131: Come On And Take A Free Ride
    Feb 5 2024
    Hey, we're transportationing here!

On one hand, we're talking about the personal health stuff that kept Kennedy out of the booth for a week or two - on the other hand, did you know that bus rides are free in Alburquerque? And that kicks off a fun episode about transportation reform, country club reps on city council who want to roll back this COVID era benefit.

But the good things can't be ignored – this idea started in 2020 and it’s doing so well, it’s here to stay.

We even compare it to places like Glasgow to see how they're doing similar stuff.

Then, we look at how all this bus stuff is helping our planet.

We talk about how Albuquerque is making buses reach more people, even though it’s hard because the city is so spread out. We discuss the cool train that goes from Santa Fe to Belen and how they might make it even better. We also look at a new bus service in Valencia County where you can call a bus for free.

And it’s not just about buses – we chat about how people are taking care of their lawns differently, from letting them grow wild to having 'ugly lawn contests' in Australia. It’s all about how different people are helping the environment in their own way.

    So, tune in!

You're also invited to hang out with us in real life!

  • S1E130 - Episode 130: Julius Milanes
    Jan 29 2024
    The Story Of "Sayf"

In this podcast episode, Brandyn reconnects with a former podcast collaborator who has transitioned into filmmaking. We talk about our long history together in podcasting from Down Time Grift up until starting a company together.

This episode is pretty valuable for anybody looking to make a project like a movie - or if you want to take part in it yourself.

🎬 From Podcasting to Filmmaking Julius shared his leap from the audio waves of podcasting to the visual storytelling of filmmaking. Sayf was written to shine a positive light on Muslim characters and challenge the status quo.

🎞️ Influences and Inspirations We took a stroll down memory lane, discussing the films that inspired Sayf - basically building a fun creative playlist for indie-sized film.

📝 The Art of Scriptwriting Are you writing a script without prior experience? Julius escaped that Catch-22 feeling - but not without A LOT of steady effort. But, we can now share the hurdles and shortcuts to creating something viable.

🤝 Building a Creative Community The biggest factor? The importance of feedback, networking, and genuine connections. The online world can only do so much. We talk about the meaningful, face to face collaborations that make an idea cohesive.

Balancing Acts Creating art while juggling family time and other commitments is tough. We spoke on those real sacrifices and the respect for everyone's time and effort.

🚀 The Road Ahead What's next? We're talking visuals, trailers, and the nitty-gritty of bringing a film project to fruition. Plus, we touched on the excitement of translating real-life experiences into authentic dialogue.

🌟 Calling All Supporters Are you a fan of superhero stories, tokusatsu, or just eager for a fresh take on the Muslim cultural narrative? My guest is looking for core supporters and collaborators, especially in the Albuquerque area. Let's make movie magic together!

  • S1E129 - Episode 129: Back & Sponsored By Ourselves
    Jan 1 2024
    Episode Notes

Ever wondered what happens when a podcast takes a sabbatical, only to return with a newfound gusto? Welcome back to the discourse zone - Brandyn & Kennedy, peel back the curtain on our escapades away from the mic.

Our evolution both in and out of the studio, and the adventures that have fortified our return to the airwaves. We give the deets about the hiatus, including stints at an ad agency and the creation of our (pretty ethical) marketing firm...

    WE BACK, BABY.

And we're setting the stage for the new year.

We're dissecting the tidal changes within labor unions, such as the United Auto Workers, and decoding the ripples the (general strike-ish) movements might send through the industry.

Meanwhile, we consider the fates of AI and creative jobs, and the surge of niche streaming platforms like MGM Plus.

It's not all business, though; we're also zeroing in on our top TV and film picks, from the culinary drama of "The Bear" to the time-bending "Mrs. Davis," offering you some must-sees and uncovering hidden gems along the way.

It's a celebration of creativity, a dash of nostalgia, and a toast to the episodes yet to come. So tune in and join us.
