    Luke 2:8-12

    And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."


    John 16:22

    So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

    Jolly Isn't Joy


    Jolly is a mood.

    Joy is a miracle.

    What difference does joy make?


    Nehemiah 8:10

    Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."


    Joy strengthens.

    James 1:2-3

    Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.


    Joy transforms.

    Acts 13:49-52

    The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. 50 But the Jewish leaders incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.


    Joy fills.

    1 Peter 1:6-9

    In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.


    Joy anticipates.

    Hebrews 12:2-3

    fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.


    Joy endures.


    How do we access this joy?


    Psalm 16:11

    You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.


    Psalm 126:3

    The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.


    1 Peter 4:13

    But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

  • PEACE

    Luke 2:13-14

    Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."


    John 14:27-28a

    Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. 28 "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.'

    Peaceful Isn't Full Peace


    Peaceful is a vibe.

    Peace is a victory.

    Isaiah 9:6

    For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.


    Colossians 1:15-20

    The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

    What difference does peace make?


    Colossians 3:15

    Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.


    Peace rules.

    Ephesians 2:14

    For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility


    Peace unifies.

    Hebrews 12:14

    Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.


    Peace distinguishes.

    Philippians 4:7

    And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.


    Peace guards.


    How do I access this peace?


    Philippians 4:6-9

    Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.


    8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

  • HOPE

    John 1:14

    The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.


    John 14:1-4

    "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?

    3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."

    Psalm 33:20

    We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.


    Hopeful Isn't Full Hope


    Hopeful is a vibe.

    Hope is a verdict.


    Hebrews 6:19a

    We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.


    Hope stabilizes.

    Romans 5:2b-5

    And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.


    Hope reframes suffering.


    1 John 3:2-3

    Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.


    Hope purifies.

    Hebrews 10:23

    Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.


    Hold onto Hope.


    Lamentations 3:21-25

    Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:

    22 Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.

    23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

    24 I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."

    25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
