  • Summary

  • Hi! I’m Gail Nobles. The last time I talked about house building. Today I want to talk about metal roofing. It is true that if you have a simple roof with few or no valleys, metal panels can be cheaper and faster to install. I have a valley on my roof, and it was a bit challenging to do. Just try to get the same metal for your whole roof. For my valley, there was a cheaper and thinner metal put on my roof. There was also a leak in the long run. Roof coating had to be applied to the thinner metal to stop the leak, and dents and holes had to be covered. Sometimes nails may need coating too.

It is better to have a metal roof. You don’t have to worry about replacing shingles. A metal roof can last you a number of years. When you buy the metal, it is already painted. If it does rust which it shouldn’t for a long time, you can repaint it with paint made for metal roofs. Painted metal roofs come with a baked on factory finish.

Some people want to know if you can put a metal roof over an existing shingle roof. Yes you can. So if you’re tired of replacing shingles, you might want to think about metal roofing. It will cost much higher than the cost of a roof with shingles, but it will be worth it.
