Mental Health for the Masses: The Potential and Pitfalls of Scaling Psychedelic Clinics with Dr. Dominique Morisano

  • Summary

  • Featuring: Dr. Dominique Morisano - Clinical Psychologist / Researcher / Adjunct Professor When people learn about the benefits of psychedelic-assisted therapy and how it helps those suffering with anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic pain and other health issues, it’s easy to understand why there’s growing enthusiasm to make these treatments available to as many people as possible. That’s certainly one reason that ketamine clinics are quickly growing in number in cities around the world. There’s great potential, but also some real pitfalls, to making psychedelic-assisted therapy available to the masses, and in this episode we’ll examine some important considerations, including: · How to know when it’s time to scale? What are the critical questions and “kpi metrics” clinic owners should consider before scaling their psychedelic therapy services to other locations? · What types of clinicians should you hire? What are the best ways to find and hire skilled therapists who can deliver psychedelic therapy within specific time limits, without compromising on quality of care? · In terms of a therapeutic model for psychedelic therapy, what’s the best ratio of prep time to session time to integration time? · How important is it for a therapist to have experienced psychedelic-therapy themselves in order to do this work? · What are the key questions clinic owners and investors should be asking to know if they’re scaling for the right reasons? · If running on a limited budget, what elements should be prioritized within a psychedelic clinic (and which are not as important to its overall profitability or customer experience)? · As you bring on more clients and expand your services, what strategies can you utilize within a clinic to ensure your therapy staff won’t burn out? Our guest for this episode played a pivotal role in helping one of the largest ketamine clinics in the world scale across several locations, so she’s got some invaluable perspective to share on these questions and more. Dr. Dominique Morisano was a driving force behind the “Research to Reality” psychedelic conference, co-hosted by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, which took place at the Toronto Hilton from May 27 to 29, 2022. This “first-of-its-kind” event brought together a unique coalition of government representatives, regulators, policymakers, traditional medicine providers, neuroscientists, clinical practitioners and others to share and discuss the latest clinical research findings regarding psychedelic therapy work. The presenters at this event represented a mosaic of diverse and invaluable perspectives from all corners of the psychedelic sector, ranging from very traditional cultural lineages to the latest in scientific research. It was groundbreaking in its scope and impact, and the session content is some of the richest and most informative in the space.
