  • S1E7: Breaking The Cycle
    Jun 30 2022

    Episode 7: Breaking the Cycle

Vann’s confessing to strangling women in Illinois points to a profound reality: not only is Hargrove’s algorithm effective at detecting serial murder activity, but it detected two clusters involving the same serial killer…

While many unanswered questions in the case of the 51 remain, grassroots activists and organizations like Mother’s Opposed to Violence Everywhere work towards local and federal legislature reform to prevent violent crimes against, especially black and brown, women.

One of their main policies focuses on Hargrove’s work, including mandating federal use of the algorithm in all jurisdictions across the country.

  • S1E6: A Serial Killer’s Confession…
    Jun 23 2022

Back in 2014, Thomas Hargrove’s algorithm sounded the alarm on a cluster of potential serial murder activity brewing Gary, Indiana. Despite Hargrove’s repeated efforts to share his data, the Hammond Police turned a blind eye until a few months later when the information became a reality.

In October of 2014, Darren Deon Vann was arrested for the murder of Afrikka Hardy. In addition to admitting to strangling Hardy to death, Vann confessed to strangling six more women.

Even more chilling, in a taped interview with Hammond Detectives, Vann admitted to killing women across the country, including Chicago
