En dan beginnen we nu echt aan de zoektocht naar de Joodse goochelaar Ben Ali Libi, welbekend van het gedicht van Willem Wilmink en de voordracht ervan door Joost Prinsen.

Ik neem jullie mee in de zoektocht door de jaren heen. Steeds als ik Ben Ali Libi leek te vinden, verdween hij weer en moest ik een andere weg inslaan. Zo leidde hij mij langs allerlei wegen, waarin ik hem en mezelf steeds beter leerde kennen.

Het bleek dat Ben Ali Libi niet zomaar een goochelaar was en hij mij, maar wellicht ook u op deze reis, het wonderlijke van het leven laat ontdekken.

Hallo, ik ben Gerrie Timmerman en dit is een nieuwe podcastserie over mijn speelfilmproject: The Magician's Daughter ook wel bekend als Disappearing Act.
 
De film is deels gebaseerd op mijn leven: De dochter van de goochelaar.
Ik ben filmmaker en dochter van de vrij onbekende Nederlandse goochelaar Timanini.
 
Maar de film gaat ook, en niet in de laatste plaats, over het leven van de joodse goochelaar Ben Ali Libi, die in de Holocaust verdween en hoe zijn leven en het mijne elkaar op onverwachte manieren beïnvloedden.
 
De podcastserie volgt uiteraard de zoektocht naar de joodse goochelaar Ben Ali Libi, die elke keer dat we dichterbij komen lijkt te verdwijnen.
 
En de serie volgt de filmmaker in haar uitdaging om deze film gemaakt te krijgen.
 
Maar we gaan ook in op de onderwerpen die in de film of het maken ervan 
ter sprake komen. 

 Die afleveringen heten Specials en gaan over onderwerpen 
 als goochelen en goochelaars, ‘echte magie’, filmmaken en nog veel meer.

As I am on the road trying to produce my feature film, I use this time during the WGA writer's strike to record episodes for the podcast series, that will accompany my movie before, during and after it is produced. 
 
 As I can only tape them, wherever I am on the West Coast, the episodes are not always in a chronologically logical order.  But they can stand on their own for now.
 
 This episode of this podcast is with my American friend Kate Anders, poet, painter and author of the book “I’m Dying To Tell You”, which talks about her journey as a medium.

She is my first guest in the Specials-section of my podcast series accompanying my film The Magician’s Daughter.

In this episode, we talk about Jospeh Campbell, and his influence on writing and screenplays, including my own.

But we also discuss the essence of time; what is reality and illusion and we touch upon the possibility of an afterlife; all subjects matters that are woven into my feature film’s storylines.
