In this episode of Pitch Perfect the Podcast we discuss: The Real Mardid and Barca Dominance, and brief history.

Segment 1: Real Madrid and Barca Dominance

As you can probably tell from the episodes that I have already posted, I am more of a Premier League guy. It’s what I focus on, and I don’t watch nearly as much La Liga as Prem. The one thing I do know about La Liga is that it’s a league that basically consists of 2 teams, Real and Barca. They are the teams with the titles, the best players, all the money, and the fanbases.

    Number of La Liga titles

    • Real Madrid- 35
    • Barca- 27
    • Everyone else- 30

    La Liga titles since 2000

    • Real Madrid- 8
    • Barca- 11
    • Everyone else- 4

Atletico Madrid- 2, Valencia- 2 (both before 2005)

El Clasico is the biggest rivalry in all of sports, even though I love the prem derby and all of the American sports ones, there’s no doubt its the best. I always thought that the rivalry was only because of them being the two best teams in the country, but an article by onefootball says a reason for it is their opposing political views, which I found interesting.

In total competive matches, there have been 205 matches, Real Madrid have won 103, Barca 100, and 52 draws, so Real Madrid barley has the upper hand.

    Segment 2: Brief History

La Liga was officially formed in 1929, having only 10 teams in the competition at this point. In total, there have been 62 teams that have participated. The best display of dominance was in the 60’s and 70’s when Real Madrid won 14 league titles over this time period. La Liga has produced the most Champions League winning teams (19) and their players have won the most ballon d’ors (24).
