  • From DM to Brick-and-Mortar with Abou Sow | S3 EP7
    Mar 1 2023

Today, we are privileged to have Abou Sow, the owner of Prince Abou's Butchery—one of the few Black-owned butcher shops in New York. Abou descends from a line of pastoral people from West Africa and learned the craft from his uncle's business at the young age of 11.

While he was initially reluctant to work in his uncle's shop, he now operates a successful butchery, which started from Instagram DM. Along the way, he learned to respect and honor all life and embrace his role in the cycle of life.

Abou's journey resonated with me as it mirrors my path of expanding on my family's traditions and transforming them into community-building tools. I hope you'll find this conversation as fascinating as I found it recording it.

  • Keeping Your Inner Child Alive with Jesse Wilson | Season 3 Episode 1
    Oct 26 2021
We kick off season three with a rawly uplifting conversation with Jesse Wilson. In this episode, Jesse opens up about his upbringing in an intense religious organization, the epicenter of the ecumenical charismatic renewal movement of the 1970s and 80s; his strange mini-celebrity status as “The Obedient Child” and his nearly 20-year career as a full-time pastor. He also talks about the moment he decided to pull the plug on his church to save his inner child.

Jesse courageously models how to build a new life after a significant chapter closes—piecing together a new home, a new work, new relationships, and a new sense of self.

In between, Jesse shares his fascinating research on how we become, stay, feel and find inspiration.
