    Nov 9 2024

This week's Author Diary touches on managing seasonal affective disorder while progressing on exciting literary fronts.

    🌨️ Managing Seasonal Affective Disorder:

As November rolls in, so does my annual encounter with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It's a familiar challenge by now, and understanding what to expect helps me navigate it more effectively. While SAD does pose its difficulties, recognising the symptoms early allows me to adjust my schedule and self-care routines to maintain productivity and well-being.

    📖 Starting "Blade of Sorrows":

In terms of writing, I've begun drafting "Blade of Sorrows," the third book in the Guild of Assassins series. I'm currently 15,000 words in, about 25% through the manuscript. Diving back into this dark, intricate world is exhilarating, and the initial chapters are shaping up to bring more thrilling twists and deep character explorations.

    📚 Reading Insights:

My reading this week included "Opus" by Gareth Gore, a deep dive into the enigmatic world of Opus Dei. The book provides an intriguing glimpse into the inner workings and controversies surrounding this Catholic institution. Additionally, I'm about halfway through "The Damnation of Power" from the Horus Heresy series, which continues to expand on the epic saga with intense conflicts and rich, detailed lore.

    📅 Looking Ahead:

Despite the challenges posed by SAD, I remain committed to my writing goals and literary explorations. The support and understanding of the writing community also play a crucial role in managing these seasonal hurdles.

I’d love to hear from you about how you cope with seasonal changes or manage personal challenges while keeping up with creative or professional commitments.

    Nov 2 2024

Dive into this week’s Author Diary as I tackle a variety of writing projects, from editing a sequel to revisiting a prequel, and even venturing into festive zombie territory!

    📝 Editing "Forged in Blood":

I'm deep into the editing process for "Forged in Blood," the second book in the Guild of Assassins series. It's always a detailed task to refine the narrative, enhance character development, and ensure the plot twists keep readers on the edge of their seats. This stage is crucial for bringing the polished version of the story to life.

    📚 Revisiting "Scoundrels":

After a year, I've returned to "Scoundrels," a prequel to the Dawn of Assassins series. Diving back into this story is like reconnecting with an old friend and rediscovering their secrets. It's fascinating to explore the backstory that sets the stage for the events and dynamics in the main series.

    🎅 Writing "Santa Versus Zombies":

In a lighter, more whimsical vein, I penned a short story titled "Santa Versus Zombies." This festive, fun piece provided a great creative outlet, blending the cheer of the holiday season with the thrill of a zombie apocalypse. It was a delightful project that offered a humorous break from my more intense writing.

    🚶‍♂️ Completing "Niamh’s Journey":

I also wrapped up "Niamh's Journey," a side story in the Punks Versus Zombies series. Finishing this narrative provided closure for a thread that added depth and perspective to the main storyline.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on handling multiple projects, or your experiences with returning to a story after a long break.

    🏰 Fantasycon Adventures:

This past weekend at Fantasycon was a whirlwind of inspiration and connection. Participating in panels, enjoying the banquet, and meeting both fellow authors and avid readers was fantastic. It's always exhilarating to be part of such a dynamic gathering of creative minds.

🎩 Crafting a New Lord Sidebottom Tale:

🗡️ Progress on "Forged in Blood":

    Oct 12 2024

Join me in this week's Author Diary as I explore new creative territories with a Space Western story, prepare for an exciting convention, and dive into some intriguing reads.

    🌠 Writing a Space Western:

This week has been a thrilling ride as I've ventured into the realm of a Space Western, already hitting the 20,000-word mark. The process is as fun as it is challenging, weaving together elements of frontier lawlessness with futuristic sci-fi. While I'm still shaping the story's direction, the journey of crafting it is proving to be immensely enjoyable.

    🎤 Gearing Up for Fantasycon:

I'm also gearing up for a busy weekend at Fantasycon in Chester. I'll be participating in four panels, discussing everything from genre nuances to character development. It's an opportunity I'm particularly excited about, as it allows me to meet fellow writers and fans, exchange ideas, and gain new insights.

    📚 Reading Adventures:

On the reading front, I've finished "The KLF" by John Higgs, which delves into the eccentric and enigmatic music group known for their avant-garde antics. Inspired by this, I've started "Illuminatus" by Robert Anton Wilson, a complex and layered novel that promises to be as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.

    📅 Looking Forward:

As I prepare for the panels and continue my writing, I'm excited to see where both these adventures take me. The combination of discussing my craft with peers and pushing the boundaries of my creative work is what keeps this journey fascinating.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on blending genres like the Space Western, your experiences at conventions, or any transformative books you've read.
