1. Jean is a well-known choir leader, teacher, councillor, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she organises fund raising for the Manchester based Christies Hospital.
2. She makes gallons of jam & pickles, to raise money for the Christie Hospital, in her spare time. (God knows where she gets spare time from, or the jam jars).
3. Jean has been running the Yew Tree Singers for over 54 Years
(I’ve got grandkids that get bored watching the tele for 30 minutes).
4. Jean was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2014 for services to music and charity.
5. There are few people that are from Dukinfield that have not come across Jean Depledge in their life:
· They know her from school as their teacher or deputy head.
· They know her from the Yew Tree Singers
· They know her from the Twinning Committee
(Remember our twin town in France Champagnole).
· They knew her from fund raising for Christies
· They know her as a member of the Wellington Street, methodist church
· They know her from her time as a councillor
…but everyone that knows her thinks of her as their friend and although we can list her fine achievements, here tonight, I believe the greatest achievement she has given us all is that of friendship and encouragement that great leaders often have, and Jean, has it in spades.
Jean, we thank you for your service to Dukinfield and we all want you to enjoy your very well-earned retirement and know that you have many friends and admirers here in your town of Dukinfield.
