Each of the above professionals has a different and distinct way of training and length of time spent in training. Typically, psychiatrists and psychologists spend the most years in training and/or research. Psychologists are usually extensively trained in psychotherapy. Psychiatrists are trained in psychotherapy and in medical and mental health disorders.
