  • President Donald Trump has called for a boost in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). There are currently approximately 45,000 men and women employed in customs and border protection services, including more than 1.5 million civil servants and 1,500 special agents.


    Customs brokers are necessary to the success of any type of business that imports or exports goods


    In short,


    To become a customs broker you must be a U.S. citizen, must pass the Customs Broker License Examination, must be at least 18 years of age, submit a broker license application and last, your application must be approved by CBP.


    If you are selected for the position you are applying for, you will have to go through a training programme where you will have to undergo training before you start a customs position. Those who successfully complete the training programs will then be included in the US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) recruitment process.


    People seeking a job as customs agents should be physically and mentally strong and have no criminal record. A customs broker officer must be able to monitor and analyse behaviour and situations when they occur.
