    U počátků moderního olympijského hnutí v devadesátých letech 19. století stál nejen legendární Francouz Charles Pierre de Frédy, baron de Coubertin (1863-1937), ale i jeho český přítel Jiří Stanislav Guth-Jarkovský (1861-1943), který zůstal členem Mezinárodního olympijského výboru až do své smrti v roce 1943.
