What does it take to write a graphic memoir about traumatic experiences? As you might guess, it isn’t easy. It takes an emotional toll. Oh, I should introduce myself. I’m Jarrett otherwise known as “Jarrett J. Krosoczka” and “JJK.” In 2018, I released my graphic memoir HEY, KIDDO that details my upbringing. I am the son of a mother who suffered from an opiod addiction, a father who was completely absent, and I was raised by very loving grandparents—who cursed and drank a lot. While making the book, I kept an audio diary. And I mean, from the time that I started organizing my ideas, through the difficulties of those early drafts, and all the way through to publication day. In this limited, serialized podcast, I am going to take you on that journey, so you can hear for yourself what a head trip it is to delve into your past with words and pictures. This is Head Trip. Subscribe now so you can be the first to hear the episodes then they drop later this year.
