Harry Baines and Ailie Robertson

  • Summary

  • In December 2020, Nevis Ensemble commissioned two composers - Ailie Robertson and Harry Baines (a 15-year old school pupil) - to write two new carols in Scots and Gaelic for the orchestra. Andrea Baker speaks to Harry about what it was like to work on his first ever orchestra commission, whilst being mentored by Scottish composer Stuart MacRae. She also speaks to Ailie about life as a composer and harpist. Both carols - 'A Blythe Yule' (with text by Stuart Paterson) and 'An Dùbhlachd' (with text by Marcas Mac an Tuairneir) - can be found on the Nevis Ensemble website here: www.nevisensemble.org/carols
