Handel’s sacred oratorio known simply as, Messiah, tells the biblical story of God's redemptive work through Jesus Christ. Since its first debut in 1742, the Messiah continues to minister to audiences globally and is regularly performed during Christmas and Easter.
Join us this Advent season as we draw upon the music and biblical lyrics of Handel’s Messiah to help us prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Each song of Messiah features bible passages drawn primarily from the King James Version of the Bible.
No. 5 Recitative
Thus Saith the Lord “For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.”
-Haggai 2:6-7
“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.”
