Grant DuBose, born on June 20, 2001, in Montgomery, Alabama, has built a career defined by resilience, determination, and an unwavering belief in his own potential. Growing up in Alabama, DuBose was surrounded by football culture, but his path to the NFL was far from typical. Attending Park Crossing High School, he shared the field with talented teammates, including standout quarterback Malik Cunningham, yet DuBose remained a zero-star recruit. He was overlooked by major programs, receiving no college scholarship offers until just ten days before National Signing Day. When Division II Miles College extended him his lone offer, DuBose seized the opportunity, determined to prove himself. At Miles College, DuBose began his collegiate career as a freshman in 2019, seeing limited action as a backup. He recorded modest numbers—104 receiving yards and one touchdown across ten games—but his potential began to show. However, his momentum was disrupted in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the football season. With no games to play and uncertainty clouding his future, DuBose returned home to work multiple jobs, including bagging groceries at a local store and taking shifts at Walmart to make ends meet. Though the circumstances were challenging, DuBose refused to let his dream slip away. During this time, he remained focused on football, staying in shape and waiting for an opportunity to continue his career. In 2021, DuBose’s perseverance paid off. A chance connection with a family friend of the Charlotte 49ers’ head coach led to a summer tryout at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. With no guarantees, DuBose showed up and gave everything he had. His performance earned him a spot on the team, and he wasted no time making an impact. In his first game with Charlotte, he put up 118 yards and two touchdowns against Duke, surpassing his total receiving yardage from his freshman year at Miles College. Over the next two seasons, DuBose emerged as a key player for the 49ers, finishing his time there with 126 receptions for 1,684 yards and 15 touchdowns. In his senior year, he tied a program record by scoring nine touchdowns, a testament to his hard work and consistency. In the third quarter, while attempting to make a catch over the middle, DuBose suffered a devastating head injury following a helmet-to-helmet collision with Texans safety Calen Bullock.
