Manning II (a previous Turkey Trot participant) sits down with Bruce Putnam, a longtime member of the Turkey Trot committee, and Jordan Fricault, event coordinator, to discuss the beloved Thanksgiving Day tradition in Boiling Springs, N.C. Taking place Thanksgiving morning on the Gardner-Webb campus, the Turkey Trot brings together runners and walkers of all ages for a fun and meaningful start to the holiday.

    We dive into the history, purpose, and community impact of the event, which has become a cherished tradition for families year after year. Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the We Build People Campaign at the Y, providing scholarships for community members in need. Volunteers are still being recruited, so there’s a chance to join the team behind this special event!

    This walk-and-run experience offers more than exercise; it’s an opportunity for connection, camaraderie, and celebration. Participants enjoy refreshments, socializing, and a chance to compete in age and gender categories for awards. Start your Thanksgiving off right by joining the Turkey Trot community!

  • Jeremey Luther named GWU Head Basketball Coach (Dawg Tracks 19)

    After a national search process, on March 27th, Gardner-Webb President Dr. William M. Downs has named one of its own, GWU Associate Coach Jeremy Luther as the head coach of the men’s basketball program.

    In his 11 seasons at GWU, Luther contributed a wealth of knowledge and played a vital part of the program’s 188 wins. Luther also helped lead the program to its first NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament in 2018-2019.


    Today on Dawg Tracks episode 19, Phil Constantino talks with Luther about his desire to lead the Runnin' Dawgs, and what's ahead for the program.

Travel with us today as we visit GWU alumna and current head women’s basketball coach for Shelby High School, Carley Plentovich Tallent. Tallent was a standout student-athlete at GWU, and was one of the most prolific shooters in program history. Tallent finished her career ranked first all-time in free throw percentage, second in three-pointers made, single game records, and 17th overall in points. Today, Tallent speaks with President Downs about her career at GWU, her transition into coaching, NIL, the transfer portal, her future goals, and more.

    Third year Head Softball Coach Bailey Wigness joins us for this episode of Dawg Tracks. Wigness offers an outlook of the season ahead, talks the transfer portal, chats about the Brinkley Softball Stadium and facility improvements, and explores the future of the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

     Wigness played at national power Arizona State University, three times earning All-Pac 12 honors and leading the Sun Devils to the 2011 National Championship. Wigness finished a career with a spectacular .371 batting average, stole 40 bases and scored 130 runs. Wigness remains ranked among the program's all-time leaders in career batting average (8th) and stolen bases (11th).
     The Casa Grande, Ariz., native graduated from Arizona State with a degree in communications and political science. Wigness earned her master’s degree in educational leadership in 2018 from Boise State.
