    THE GLASS MENAGERIE

    Written by TENNESSEE WILLIAMS

    Directed by Clinton Nitschke

The University of Adelaide Theatre Guild Student Society

Featuring interviews with CAST MEMBERS, Jessica Merrick (Amanda Wingfield), Connor Duncan (Tom Wingfield), Mia Livingston-Pearce (Laura Wingfield), Liam Warmeant (Jim O’Connor) and DIRECTOR, Clinton Nitschke, with SPECIAL GUEST HOST Laura McLeod (Stage Manager).

An Amateur Production By Arrangement with ORiGiNTM Theatrical, on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.– A Concord Theatricals Company.

'So what are we going to do now, honey, the rest of our lives? Just sit down in this house and watch the parades go by? Amuse ourselves with the glass menagerie, darling? Eternally play those worn-out records your father left us as a painful reminder of him?'

A drama of great tenderness, charm and beauty, The Glass Menagerie is one of the most famous plays of the modern theatre.

Amanda Wingfield is a faded, tragic remnant of Southern gentility who lives in poverty in a dingy St. Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura. Amanda strives to give meaning and direction to her life and the lives of her children, though her methods are ineffective and irritating. Tom is driven nearly to distraction by his mother's nagging and seeks escape in alcohol and the world of the movies. Laura also lives in her illusions. She is crippled, and this defect, intensified by her mother's anxiety to see her married, has driven her more and more into herself.

When a gentleman caller arrives for dinner, the Wingfield family is flooded with hope. However, it is uncertain if this visitor will change things for the better.

    MOTHER & SON

    Written by Geoffrey Atherden

    Directed by Jude Hines

    The Adelaide Repertory Theatre Company

This episode features interviews with CAST MEMBERS, Penni Hamilton Smith (Maggie Beare), Patrick Clements (Arthur Beare), Nikki Gaertner, Mollie Mooney, Sandy Whitelaw, Jess Corrie, Alifa Willoughby and Stephen Bills, along with the Director of Mother & Son, Jude Hines.

Ageing isn’t for the old or faint-hearted….This poignant tribute to ageing is about dependence, love, and family and being driven up the wall by someone you love but never outsmart!

The Rep breathes new life into the celebrated Australian TV series in this play, commissioned for stage by the original series writer, Geoffrey Atherden.

Voted the best Australian TV series ever, this stage production is filled with laughter, nostalgia, and poignant moments exploring the themes of family bonds and the challenges of ageing.

This production will entertain audiences young & old.

    SYNOPSIS

Maggie Beare is in the early stages of dementia, and her younger son, Arthur, reluctantly lives with her. Despite being increasingly forgetful, Maggie is lucid enough to strategically manipulate Arthur, usually for something outlandish and inconvenient. Their family is dysfunctional, and Arthur’s budding love life is ‘on the rocks’ before he gets to hand-holding. Audiences can expect a hearty, laugh-out-loud-great time.

We introduce the renowned Adelaide performers Penni Hamilton–Smith in the Maggie Beare role, originally played by Ruth Cracknell, and Patrick Clements as Arthur Beare, originally played by Garry McDonald. A talented supporting cast includes Stephen Bills, Nikki Gaertner, Mollie Mooney, Sandy Whitelaw, Jess Corrie, and introducing Alifa Willoughby and Henry Bacon.

    SEASON: 15th - 23rd of November

This episode of For the Love of Theatre Podcast features interviews with Cast Members, Sash Elliott (The Princess) Ben Todd (Ja'Far), Axel Moen (Aladdin), Darcie Yelland (Ensemble) and Director, Kristian Latella, of Twisted: The Untold Story of the Royal Vizier.

    Show Synopsis:

Originally produced by StarKid Productions and written in the style of Wicked, Twisted cleverly re-tells the classic Disney movie, Aladdin, but from the perspective of the villain...

Ja’far is a hardworking, honest politician in a magic kingdom that has fallen on hard times. Corruption is rampant on all levels, crime is up (thanks to the efforts of that thief, Aladdin!) and the kingdom is on the verge of bankruptcy. When the naive princess angers the prince of the Kingdom of Pik-zahr, Ja’far remembers a tale told to him by his deceased wife – that of an all-powerful Djinn, hidden in a common lamp. To save the kingdom from certain destruction and ensure a happy ending for all, Ja’far must do everything he can to get his hands on that lamp, even when the road gets a little... twisted!

Content advice. While Twisted is a cheeky homage to Disney, this production contains strong language, sexual references and adult themes. Recommended only for mature audiences.

SYNOPSIS of The Boy from Oz

The Boy From Oz is a class above all other ‘jukebox’ musicals with a plot skillfully weaved around the life and complexities of Peter Allen. The songs and lyrics sit easily with the rhythm of the show as characters enter and re-enter his life, sometimes in spirit, and it is Peter’s experiences and memories that ultimately become the stories he writes and sings from the heart.

    By Sir Terry Pratchett.

Adapted by Stephen Briggs. Directed by Danny Sag.

    MUSIC. MYSTERY. MAGIC. MURDER.

The Arch, Holden Street Theatres, 32-34 Holden Street, Hindmarsh

    October 30 – November 2, 1.00pm and November 2, 7.30pm

This episode features interviews with Paul Messenger (Producer / Production Manager), David Dyte (Producer/Assistant Director), Xandra Roberts (Technical Director / Sets / Lighting), Natalie Haigh (CAST, Agnes "Perdita X" Nitt), Chris Coulter (CAST, Seldom Bucket) and Danny Sag (Director).

Sporadic Productions is proud to present a stage adaptation of Sir Terry Pratchett’s bestselling. Discworld novel “Maskerade”. This comedic murder mystery parodies The Phantom of the Opera while weaving a fantastical tale about the masks – figurative and literal - that we all wear.

    SYNOPSIS

Welcome to the Ankh-Morpork Opera House, home to music, theatrics, and a masked ghost… where dying on stage is a bit more than just a metaphor. Young not-quite-a-witch, Agnes Nitt has left her home in Lancre to seek a career at the Opera House. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg, on their way to Ankh-Morpork for... unrelated reasons... would much rather she return home and join their coven.

Opera is nothing if not dramatic, and now all three are caught up in a maelstrom of masked mayhem and maniacal laughter (delivered via handwritten note), but most certainly not featuring a precariously hanging chandelier. As the corpses pile up and the corps de ballet clamour for additional hazard pay, only one thing is certain – the show must go on!
