After the vision is cast, the enthusiastic response, and the naive, gun-ho attempts come the inevitable resistance to the plan. What separates the REAL leader from the leader who opts to quit is a solid mindset of grit. You either have it, or you don't, and Nehemiah had it in spades. Nehemiah held no position or title that would lead him to seek the governorship of Judea. However, because no one else was willing to step up, he decided to take on this responsibility. He boldly asked the king for leave and ventured into the unknown to do what he could with the resources available to him.

The book begins without any prior record of leadership, yet it immediately thrusts a man with a comfortable position in a palace into the pressing challenges faced by his suffering people. He will show that humble beginnings do not limit a person's ability to succeed as a leader and that one man can make a significant impact when he, in the presence of God, genuinely seeks the well-being of those he is called to lead.
