Episode 6 - The Murder of George Collis

  • Summary

  • It was early evening on the 7th December 1845 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire a large market town in the north of England, around 150 miles north, north west of London.

George Collis had finished his supper and then been to visit his sweetheart, Ellen. As he kissed her goodbye on the doorstep of her house, George promised to return the following evening.

Walking hurriedly through the cobbled streets, on this cold winters night, George made his way to a local public house to meet with an acquaintance to discuss business.

The next night Ellen waited, and waited, but George didn’t come.

His body was found some 9 months later down a soil pit in the town centre.

This is the story of George Collis.
