  • Summary

  • Despite the White Cobra's warning, Mowgli returns to the jungle with a bejewelled ankus from the king's treasure hoard. When a man comes across the ankus, Mowgli and Bagheera follow his trail and discover that for men, the cursed object does indeed bring death.

Meanwhile, as Akela's authority over the wolf pack begins to weaken, Shere Khan makes his plans against Mowgli. Bagheera warns his young friend that his days in the jungle are numbered and that his only hope is to go to the man-village to obtain the red flower.
