  • After nearly 3 years and 17 episodes, Dr. Marissa Betts is stepping down as Sci Flicks Coordinator. We cannot thank her enough for all she has done for the show and thoroughly look forward to seeing what she's going to do next. She has passed the mantle of Sci Flicks Coordinator over to Bridgette Glover; a PhD student here at UNE who looks forward to carrying the show onward and bringing more fascinating science discussions to our airwaves!

    Bridgette's first episode examines Arrival, a 2016 film that focuses on a linguist's attempt to discover a way of communicating with recently-landed extraterrestrials. For her first episode she is joined by two guests; Dr. Sally Dixon, who works as a researcher in linguistics, and Dr. Piers Kelly, who focuses on graphics coding and the Australian Stick Message Project which examines long distance communication across Aboriginal Australia.
