  • James Earl "Jimmy" Carter was born on October 1, 1924 in Plains, GA, and he was the 39th President of the United States. Carter was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and served on a nuclear submarine in the early 1950s. He returned to Plains, GA after his father died to run the family peanut farm. He was elected in 1976 defeating incumbent Gerald Ford, and served one term, losing to Ronald Reagan in the Election of 1980. Jimmy Carter & his wife Rosalyn live in Plains, GA, and are actively involved in Habitat for Humanity.
