Good equipment, good microphone, yes you can spend out on it and I would probably recommend you did. but when youre starting out, you don’t know if you are going to carry on with it, if your interest for it will fizzle out. let me give you an example.

In 2018 I started a video podcast on one of my YouTube channels (JD Quad Vlogs) with the aim of just recording interesting conversation as with general chit chat it can twist and turn and spiral in many different ways as thousands of conversation ideas raise their head and also as you get older is a fun way to look back and have a laugh at your younger self and also to remember the fun times with friends and family. But i didn't stick with the video podcast and after around 5 videos it fizzled out. A few reasons led to this, couldn’t free up the time with work and being on 24/7 on call but mostly it was because although I was running a YouTube channel I was ill-equipped for recording audio. I strongly believe if I had better equipment I would have carried on with it.

So what’s needed for a podcast, well surprisingly a lot is needed.

An idea - what’s the podcast going to be about? Don’t ever think any idea is silly as there is almost a podcast for everything out there

Look at what other people are doing, make notes of what’s good and what you think is not so good about their podcast.
