At the forefront of the Norwegian black metal scene was a band known as Mayhem which became famous for their rebellious demonic sound and live displays of violence and gore, until the corpse Mayhem’s singer was discovered in 1991. When relic's of cranium pieces, talk of cannibalism, and death photos began commonplace within the black metal scene, the public began to wonder whether the evil was just a gimmick or if something darker lingered within the lyrics.
